Baggage Policy
Baggage Allowance
“Baggage” refers to items carried by passengers on, or in conjunction with, their East Air flight. All baggage is subject to these Conditions and Rules.
Passenger Flights
Carry-On Baggage:
- Up to two items, with a combined total weight of 7kg.
Checked Baggage:
- Up to 23kg total, limited to two items.
- Extra bags may be permitted, depending on aircraft capacity.
- To request additional baggage, email hello@eastair.com.au. Booking additional baggage will depend on space availability.
- Each extra bag is $130 per piece.
- Bags weighing over 23kg (up to a maximum of 32kg) incur a $50 heavy item charge.
- No single item may exceed 32kg.
Mobility Aids and Strollers
Wheelchairs, mobility aids, and strollers do not count toward your baggage allowance.
Sporting Equipment
- Sporting equipment may be included as part of your checked baggage allowance (each item counts as one piece).
- Standard charges apply for any additional items beyond your allowance.
- You can add sporting equipment to your booking by emailing hello@eastair.com.au. Booking additional baggage will depend on space availability.
- Certain large items (e.g., surfboards, surf skis, windsurfers) may need to be sent as freight — freight charges apply.
- All items must be securely packed, and the standard maximum weight applies: Maximum weight per piece is 32kg however a charge of $50 will apply to any piece over 23kg.
Excess Baggage
- Additional baggage must be pre-booked by emailing hello@eastair.com.au. Booking additional baggage will depend on space availability.
- Each extra piece is charged at $130.
- Acceptance of excess baggage is subject to available space and payload.
Baggage Conditions
- East Air may refuse carriage of any passenger or baggage not complying with these Conditions or Rules.
- Baggage is normally carried on the same flight as the passenger but may be moved to another flight if necessary.
- East Air may refuse to carry baggage deemed unsuitable for transport.
Liability
Except as required by law, East Air is not liable for loss, damage, or delay involving the following:
- Fragile or perishable items
- Valuables (e.g., money, jewellery, documents, passports, medicines, electronics, etc.)
- Damage caused by inherent defects, normal wear and tear, or overpacking
Examples of normal wear and tear include:
- Scratches, dents, and scuffs
- Broken or damaged handles, wheels, locks, or zippers
- Missing external parts (tags, straps, feet, etc.)
- Damage to internal contents if the bag was not suitably packed
East Air is also not liable for:
- Damage to overweight baggage (over manufacturer limits or over 25kg where unspecified)
- Damage resulting from poor or unsuitable packing
Passengers are responsible for ensuring baggage is securely and suitably packed for air travel, including oversized items such as sporting or musical equipment.
Reporting Damage or Loss
- All baggage claims must be reported within 24 hours of arrival.
- Report directly to East Air staff upon arrival, or if no staff are available, email photographic evidence taken at the airport to hello@eastair.com.au.
- East Air is not liable for normal wear and tear or damage due to improper packing.
